Sport Stopping Distance

Does anybody know the stopping distance of a newer (03-04) Sport version from 60 to 0 mph? If not the Sport version, the others will do OK.

The figure is probably already linked in here somewhere, but I can't find it!

4Runner vs. Touareg

Thanks. Looks like the Limited's stopping distance was 134'.

I'm bantering with a guy about the VW Touareg. He says its stopping distance is 127. Of course, the Sport may have better distance, because it has the larger brakes, but I can't find braking stats on the Sport.

Thats weird! Carpoint says the 4runner stopping distance is 125' and the Porsche SUV is 129'.

Isn't the VW just a tuned down version of the Porsche?

Well, a few points...the bigger disc brakes probably has NO effect on braking distance. It's effect is mostly on preventing brake fade. Unless the Sport has WIDER tires (it does not), the brake distance on first stop is equal on both Limited/SR5 and Sport. Of course, the Sport may be a tad lighter than Limited, so that may affect braking distance.

The Touareg is slightly lighter than Porsche...so that may contribute to the shorter brake distance. However, the Porsche has wider tires. Bottom line, i don't know!

Lastly, braking distance varies with temperature and surface friction. So, you can't compare braking distance from two different sources nor from two different tests. The ONLY way you can compare if they tested both vehicles under the same conditions (weather, track, same wear on tires, etc.). Otherwise, it means nothing.

Touareg Weight

The Touareg is a heavy sucker for its size - something like 5,200 lbs.

Your point is taken that the comparison must be direct apples to apples.
