spring indentification and shock help

Hi, I am new to the forum and relatively new to toyota 4x4's.

I have a 99 runner that was pretty well built when I got it. So I really do not know exactly what has been done.

It has meaty 285/75/16's Maxxis and a arb front bumper. Seems to have great clearance for that tire so I am guessing it is 2-3" lift.

Haven't fully investigated the front
, but it appears to have adjustable bilsteins and springs with some paint markings so I assume they are tundra spring.

I have a worn out rear shock, come to find out it is a monroe air shock. I need to replace the rears now and really do not know if I need to the air shock as I do not plan to toe a lot of weight. Are air shocks as good offroad as the other options? These have 8.625" inches of travel, from what i can tell that is about 1-1.5" more travel than a stock shock. Is that enough extra travel for a lift?

I pulled the springs as i could not see any markings on them and I still could not after it was pulled and cleaned. It appears that there was a tag around one of the coils about half way up.

That seems to be where the ome's are labeled. Anyone have any idea on how to identify exactly what spring I have? I need to get the shocks replaced asap, but do not want to throw the same air shock in there if I will be happier in the long run with a non air shocks. Looking for decent overall ride quality and good off road capability. Just want to match the best shock with the spring rate and height that I have.

I have done some searching and will continue to do so, but any help anyone is willing to offer would be great as I really need to get this put back together asap. THX

It sounds like you have done your research and are pretty spot on.
I'd say throw some 5100 bilsteins in the rear and your good to go.

thx, I will get some pics. Found an ome spec sheet so hopefully I can take the measurements and they match up so i can verify first what spring I have.

Will a 5100 work well with any lifted spring on the rear? Do you by chance know the part number, any chance a local part store would carry the 5100's.

I bought the Bilstein 5100 rear shock for Tundras. Part #24-100144. I have them matched up with OME 891 rear springs and am very happy with the ride quality and off road flex.

here is a pic of the rear spring. From all the specs I got from OME catalog it matches closest to an 891 ome. can anyone confirm that this more than likely an ome spring? Are there any decent shocks that can be had in stock at a parts store that will work decently? Saw some posts about the LC shocks. any help would be appreciated as I need to get this done tonight or first thing in the a.m.

Looks like either some 890's or 891's to me.

thx, for the help. Thought for sure I had an 891 after some rough measurements at home. But just measured the diameter with a caliper and it is 16mm(5/8"), length is about 420mm(16.5") for the longer drivers side spring. OME spec sheet shows 15.5 mm diameter for the 891, 15mm for the 906, and 14.5 for the 890. Though I saw in post somewhere that the 891 was 16mm. Anyone know if this could be something other than the 891?
