Spring options for billy 6112s....3rd gen

Hey t4r...did a pretty decent search around and even went to local offroad shop. Pretty much zero info on this subject, I’m sure I’m wrong...but throwing it out to the experts..

Anybody tried any other spring besides the supplied one on the 6112s with their 3rd gen 4runner?....
My goal is to get a similar lift that you get with the toytecs and the 5100s....
I’d like to run on the bottom perch as to not preload spring and improve ride quality
Will the toytecs work?
If no, is there another option that someone has tried?...
I’d assume you could get any spring with the right dimensions...

I like the sound (and price point) of these 6112s, an improvement on the 5100s without going full mid travel coilover...

The springs on the 6112's are standard coilover springs, not coils that fit on any stock-style shocks. You'd have to find the specs on the springs (they may be in the thread started by MRT about the coilovers) to see if you can find something similar that fits your needs.

BTW, once the weight of the truck is on the springs, it doesn't matter if they are preloaded or not. They will be at the length dictated by the weight of the front of the truck...

If you have upper control arms, you might be able to put in a top plate spacer to take advantage of extra droop and get extra lift height. You'd have to verify you can't bottom out the shocks at full compression though.

That’s what I was looking for...hadn’t heard that about the springs being coil over type...

My understanding of these shocks is that they are pretty new, not a lot of real world feedback yet, and are specifically designed to meet certain performance and price point criteria.

If you are gonna start modifying them beyond stock to achieve a different result than they were intended to deliver then you are probably on the bleeding edge, but keep searching man!

there was a post in another thread stating that the spring rate for the 1996-2002 4Runner 6112 is 600#/inch while that for the 1999-2006 Tundra is 650 #/inch

there are guys over at the 5th gen sub-forum who have replaced the coils of the 6112 with other springs from coil-overs. there were also guys who replaced the TRDP coils with longer coils.

iirc, the 6112 coil spring is 14"L x 3"ID while the TRDP coil is only 13"L x 3"ID.

additionally, Toytec has a lift spacer that fits into the 6112 so you might like to check it out.
