Spring question...true or false other crap too.

A guy at the shop I can use for my lift said the FJ springs will raise the back end a little , but will not raise the front end because the spring is still contained in the strut tower that is a fixed length that gets squished in there even if it was 2" longer. The back however is not contained and free floating and will lift it slightly .

That sound correct. ??

We went over my lift stuff when I stopped at the shop yesterday . He recommended I do a DS 2" lift , but today we did a simulation using JA's spec's and it to high for my liking . It just does not look proportional with the 265/70/17's .

IMHO he's wrong... His point is true if and only if spring #1 (stock) and spring #2 (FJC) held the suspension 'topped' out even with the weight of the vehicle on the struts. It doesn't. When the vehicle is let down from the lift it settles. With the FJC springs it'll settle less thereby providing some lift.

It's hard to know about 2" being too much. It's such a personal thing. I know, for me, if I had a V8 I'd want spacers that netted 1"-1.5" considering FJC springs all the way around. There is no right answer though... Good luck!

CJ3Flyr is right, since the vehicle sags a few inches, the longer, slightly stiffer FJ springs will lift it up, front and back. Being a coilover in front doesn't change anything in this sense, the rear end is "contained" in the same extent by the maximum extension length of the shock, just like the front. A coilover is simply a way of making a more compact package for the spring and shock absorber since they need to fit an engine bay between the front wheels.

So like I said, longer, stiffer springs will give you a nice little lift :)

I agree with the other posters. In theory, if the FJ springs won't raise the front end up, neither would a top out spacer, but they do. I'm not an expert, just using my own logic if it is at all correct.

I think you'll be pleased with the lift and/or the springs. A10MileHusker was over at my place over the weekend and I got to see his lift (full 3" all the way around) and it looked great, even with the stock tires. I rode in his truck as well and it didn't feel like a monster truck, just right IMO. I'm thinking of doing the OME lift to my 4R in the next year or two which is supposed to give a full 3" of additional lift. I want to do bigger tires at the same time and my Revo's have too much tread to justify ditching them just yet, so I see your dilemma on tire size. Plus, I want to squeeze another couple of years out of my XREAS so the OME will last well beyond 100k miles by the time I have it replaced.

Be sure to post some pics, Mike! I think your 4R is going to look great!

My 06 has 58k on it already.

The CF spacer I have goes between the top plate and the rubber bushing , so I take it that is NOT a top out spacer since I was under the impression that the top out spacers need no spring compressing. I just want to be sure where it goes .

On the other hand I'm a little worried about my tires rubbing with the 1" front lift and FJ Front springs not giving me enough clearance for the different offset wheels . NOTE , I am already running 265/70/17

You'll be fine...

It sounds like a preload spacer which will be fine. IMHO ride quality would be a factor if you were lifting 2" or so but a 1/2" thick spacer can't make that much difference. The offset of the FJ wheels is < the stock wheels and Spidertrax. It'll be fine.

There's much said about no compress installs. I don't see how. Either way you need longer studs which requires compressing and disassembly of the strut. Compressing and disassembly isn't that big of a deal.

I want to see pics:D
