I have one coming in the mail. All the guys over on the FJ forum love it, and say its great. You have to understand what you are buying, it does not add any power. But they are all very happy with the way it has changed the overall driveability of rig. It is an expensive little black box, but if URD sells it.....that is good enough for me :)
 
Received the unit in the mail today. I will install it later on tonight and let you know how it all works out.

Installation is easy, simply plug it in and go!!!!
 
No offense... but it sounds like some snake oil to me. I've had a few cars with drive by wire, and none have had "[SIZE=-1]delayed response and subdued acceleration"

It just causes the throttle curve in relation to physical throttle position to be a quicker rise. Some people like a more steep climb on the throttle feel. My friend with an FJ really likes his.............I personally don't think its worth anything, but that is personal opinion.
 
Alright so they sent me the wrong one. I am going to have to return and see if they even have one that will work for our 5th Gen. I ordered one for a 2010 FJ, but the one they sent me is for a Tundra. Not sure if they are the same or not. If so, then I may have to see if the one for 2009 4runner will work for us. I just assumed that since the new FJ had the same motor as the 4runner, the drive by wire would be the same.

Let you know what happens when it all gets sorted out.
 
So I was wrong. I thought for sure that the FJ and 4runner shared the same connection for the drive by wire.....not the case. Long story short, they do not make one yet that will fit the 2010 and later 4runner. I am sure they will come out with one sooner than later but nothing yet. I will let you all know if and when they start making one for the 5th gen.

So the 2004-2009 4Runner one is definitely not the right one. But I bought mine at sprintboosterusa.com and they will send me the one that should fit. Once I get the right booster unit I will update you guys.

I've always wanted to install this item in my 4Runner, but never really made any real effort until recently by taking photos of the plug and trying to match it.

My first experience of the Sprint Booster was in my Mark X in China. It really wakes up the car and remaps the throttle curve. Toyota really programmed the throttle curve too conservatively. Even if you don't run it in race mode, the sport mode makes the car alot more responsive.

I don't think it's snake oil. One reason why I am trying to get the right one for my 4Runner.
 
So the correct one came today, or at least one that fits the 2010 and up 4Runner. It is Sprint Booster part number SBTO1002, which is for the 2006 to 2010 RAV4.

I noticed that there is better throttle response as well as not having to mash the throttle to get more power out of the car.

Installation note. Because Toyota in their infinite wisdom decided to route the heater core pipe right above the throttle control module, the sprinter booster winds up placing the OE factory throttle wiring and connectors up against the pipe. Therefore you would have to find some heat shielding so the OE factory harness and connector doesn't melt.

So what did you use for a heat shield? Is it worth the time and expense?
 
Yes, well worth it. It really wakes up the car. If I did not have previous experience of this product in another car I would have not gone through the trouble. But I don't regret it.

Try it out, most retailers have a 30 day back guarantee anyway.

For the plug butting against the heater core pipe issue. I wrapped the OE wiring loom with some wire shield. Then I placed some high temp resistant piping foam between the foam and the pipe. After a long drive I checked the temperature of the harness. Although warm, I'm now not worried that the heat would melt the wires.
 
Is that thing seriously $330? Sounds like a cool idea but not for that much. They are making some insane amount of profit on those units.
 
Have one on my 2011 limited- just put in on this week. This is what the car should have been in terms of throttle control from the factory. The green setting (lowest) is best. The car is no faster, just reacts differently to peddle. I know going up hills i can make the car react the same with more throttle but it was just not like any other car i have driven how dead this peddle was. It feels much better. I got it for $299. It is pricey but its pretty cool and i like it and that is what counts.

Is the unit that they sent plug and play or did you have to modify it with a heat shield as in previous posts?
 
Wrapped the heater core pipe with DEI titanium exhaust wrap, held in place with stainless steel ties, then covered a piece of a windshield sun reflector with Dei heat shield tape and slid that between the exhaust wrap and the wiring loom. The exhaust wrap is some really neat stuff, with lava rock in the fiberglass wrap. There are 2 heater core tubes under there. The one covered with the exhaust wrap, i can touch forever and no problem. Keep your fingers on the uncoated one and you'll burn. Huge heat difference. The job is a pain in the arse.
 
One other thing about the sprint booster... I think for off roading or in ice/snow, the way the 4runner pedal is stock is perfect for throttle control, you want an unreactive pedal for that. The beauty is you just turn the sprint booster off when you need to. The green setting is really good for everything else. The red setting will go wide open at like 1/2 pedal.
