i don't know if it is the timing or fanbelt but one or both of them sqeak in cold weather start ups. I don't usually hear the noise when the runner has been driven for 15 minutes or so. Any one else have this problem or know what it is? The belts look good.

I don't think a timing belt can squeak as it is ribbed crosswise and if it slips at all you will go out of time and a squeak would be the least of the problems. Accessory belts (A/C, P/S, Alt.) do squeak and can be a) old b) loose or c) both. Step 1: see if they are tight. If not, tighten. You can take a spray bottle (Windex type) with just water and spray on the pulleys one by one. If noise goes away briefly, that's where your problem is.

If just tightening doesn't do it, then it's time to pull the belts and check each component and idler for problems. If the belts are quite old, they will squeak even if tight. Mine began to squeak at about 115K and all 3 got changed at 120K when I did my TB/WP. Problem solved.

Thanks for the info. I will check it out. I know the belts are pretty new...less than 30k on them. And I don't hear the sqeak in warm weather.

Cold weather always brings out the squeaks. And if they weren't tightened up after install, that may be all that's needed. New belts stretch a little.
