sqeaking, clunking, knocking from Driver fr. wheel

Greetings:

i have been lurking here for sometime and have really enjoyed learning about my 2004 SR5 4WD V8 from you guys (and gals!).

My 4Runner has about 8000 miles on it and I just noticed this noise coming from the area of the driver's front tire/wheel area. There are 3-4 distinct noises that occur when going about 5 mph or less, usually while gently appying the brake. It sort of sounds like it could a bad shock or a wheel bearing that has gone bad, similar to the knocking a cv boot makes when it goes bad. But when I let off the brake and get over 10 mph the sound goes away.

I have not taken this vehicle off road and have not hit anything that would cause damage there. Has anyone else had this problem?

Weird, I just started noticing a similar noise from my 4R this week. I have around 3,300 miles.

It has seems to be when I first take off from being parked at work for a while. I notice a slight squeak/creaking noise, while lightly applying the brake, while pulling out of the parking lot. Once I'm out on the road, I don't notice it happening again, even when I pull back into the parking lot.

It was very cold here a week ago when this happened(down to 5 to 10 degrees for a while) I also thought it might be the brake pads or rotors, as my old Camry used to make horrible noises the first couple of times you stepped in the brake after it had sat a while. (common complaint with those cars)

It's back in the 50s and low 60s now (you got to love St. Louis weather : ) , and I haven't heard it again. I'll keep an ear out for it though.

Not sure if we are all talking about the same thing or not.
I just noticed something like this this morning while driving. Mine sounds like a grinding or clanking when I get on the brakes. Seems to do it more when I make the vehicle dip down, hit a bump, or turn while braking. It does sound like a bearing or something but that is probably not it since it seems to only happen while braking??? Temp is in the low 20's (F).
