Squeak from rear diveline

My 99 SR5 manual 5 speed has a squealing from the rear drive line while under load. If I'm maintaining speed or coasting it's quiet. I read some threads that stated it was the fitting on the drive axle that need grease. Even after rebuilding the axle it persists. The axle shop did mention it might be a wheel bearing. I'm used the the Womp, womp, womp sound from those.

I'm planning on towing a trailer in a few months between states and I need to know if something is going to blow up or not.

Does it seem strange to you that a professional axle shop would say it "might" be the wheel bearing?

It's easy to test wheel bearings. Especially for a professional axle shop.
In addition, replacing a wheel bearing is nothing compared to rebuilding an axle.

So why didn't the axle shop just replace the bearings (or at least repack them)?

Well I will say that on the Toyota truck rear wheel drive wheel bearing are a 4.5 hour each side extravaganza of pure pain in the ass. I have had shops refuse the job on my 94 pickup because they hate the job. Except for the solid front axles the rest are pressed fit dual roller bearing CV hubs. If that helps.

I did not know that it was that hard.
I apologize for saying it was easy then.

That makes a big difference, especially at 50 to 100 an hour!

check to make sure your driveshaft bolts are tight. This happened to me, the driveshaft flange was slightly lose and causing a churp against the diff flange
