Squeaking noise from front of engine. Help!!

G'day guys,
I have a 1993 4runner with the toyota 2.8 diesel. Recently i changed the coolant pump along with every other component in my cooling system apart from radiator and hoses. Ever since there has been a very very irritating sqeaking noise coming from the front of the engine.

Its not the sound that belts make when they are on their way out but more of a metallic rubbing noise. i wouldn't go as far as to say that i have stuffed a bearing because it happened so quickly after i changed the pump over.

I made a discovery today that when i spray WD-40 down at the crank pulleys the noise almost disappears.

Do any of you have any ideas???

You may very well be the only person in this forum with the diesel engine... so help may be hard to find.

If the diesel is anything like the 22RE, it could be a timing chain issue (if it's not a belt). The 22RE 4Cyl is well known for the chain getting loose and impacting the guides...

I would recommend dropping belts one at a time and seeing if the problem goes away. It could indicate a bad bearing in a pulley or component, and could get you closer to the source.

Also, consider that any moving part you had to remove/adjust or touch could be the problem.

Good luck!

Thanks for the assist but yeah the 22re doesn't sound much like it apart from being a 4 pot. Yeah the 3L 2.8 litre diesel has a timing belt have an idea it may haver something to do with the tensioner spring but not entirely sure.

The aussie t4r s came out with the 3vz engine which was the petrol v6 the 3L which is the 2.8L n/a diesel and the 2L which was a 2.4L n/a diesel

The t4r finished production here in 1993 or 1994 as well so its different seeing you guys talk about the new ones.

We also have the jap import version which is the surf which came out with the 3L turbo diesel which was really prone to blowing up cylinder heads due to a design fault in the cooling system.

Well a big gday here from australia and thanks.
