Squeaky Clutch?

Howdy guys!

I just bought a 1998 4Runner SR5 4x4 V6 5-spd., and almost every time I step on the clutch, I hear a groan/squeak coming from under the dash.

I've already soaked every pedal joint I can see with lubricant, but the squeak is still there.

Anyone know a fix for this problem??

Can you hear it from under the car when you apply the clutch pedal?

It could be the slave clutch cylinder.

My truck does that too, it lasts about 3-4 days then disapear 1 month then come back...

the problem seems to come from the clutch fork, probably a lack of grease on the pillowball. So it is probably impossible to correct without removing the transmission...

I tried to grease the pedal, and the contact point of the slave clutch cylinder on the clutch fork... but with no good result.

Touch the fork with your hand while someone else activate the clutch, you will probably feel the vibration with the sound

Yep, you can hear it from underneath the 4runner too...oh boy, what fun!

I guess I'll just let it be for the time being...my clutch will need to be replaced soon as it is engaging at the very end of the pedal travel; i'll just tackle it then.

I have exp'd same thing:

I've found that if you contort yourself to lay on the driver's seat floor and look up, you can see the clutch linkage. Look for a spring and shoot both ends with pb blaster/wd40, (wear safety glasses!). This worked to where it happens so infrequently that I couldn't even speculate how often. Maybe once every 6 months?

Hope this helps, from the sounds, your clutch may not have 6 months...

There is a small plastic bushing in the clutch mechanism shaped like a horseshoe, it goes between a point of metal on metal contact and stops the squeeking noise you speak of. As soon as thet plastic piece breaks your clutch will squeek. When I had my 5 speed I had to replace that piece twice in 5 years. Spraying lubricant will do nothing if the piece of plastic is broken. The piece is tiny. the size of a dime and only costs a few bucks, if that is your problem PM me and I'll shoot you off instructions on the easiest way to replace the part. I actually still have 2 of them sitting around as I have an auto now, the part # I have is 90389-05017.

Lol, i found a mice nest in my airbox last november.

i have had this problem in the past, and i found the noise coming from the clutch fork that holds the throwout bearing. there is a small indentation on it the requires a small amount of grease on it during installation. I have had my trans out a few times... anyways you can fix it my taking some grease on your finger and smearing it on the fork. You access it trough the rubber boot on the bell housing, just pull the boot off it seat and give it a few blobs of grease. once it works in it will be quiet for a long while
