Squeaky Foot Rest

Hi folks, since I have nothing better to complain so far wanted to ask a question.
It's getting colder we got -2C this morning (it's below 32F for those of us who's in US). I noticed that foot rest under left foot started squeaking when I step on it. It's not my shoes, I tried to apply pressure with my hand - it's still squeaking. I don't use foot rest much, so so I'm not even sure if I'm going to mention it to dealer when I do my next service, but I'm wondering if just mine foot rest squeaking when it's cold or it's 4Runner problem in general.

ya, i was a little disappointed last weekend when the rear window would not go down. it had rained the day before and it was only slightly below freezing that morning. never had this issue with our '03 unless there was a significant amount of ice build-up. the 5th gen had no visible ice build up on it when it wouldn't roll down. once the vehicle warmed up and also put on the rear defroster, it rolled down finally.

Every car gets some cracking, squeaking or rattling when it gets cold out. Even $75,000 "luxury cars"- hehe!

Just blast the stereo!
 
Yeah, I understand, just was surprised that it happens with foot rest. Never happened in my previuous vehicles, I mean got squeaks before from different places but not from foot rest. So your footrests doesn't squeak I guess, is that only mine?
And speaking about windows, mine didn't froze solid yet, so far motor breaks the ice, but i expect it will be frozen with lower temperatures.
 
This is too funny, my foot rest started squeaking too a couple weeks ago when the temps dropped way low. Before that I never noticed any noises from it.
 
This post had the perfect timing. I was driving this morning (temp around 15° F) and I noticed the same squeak on the foot rest. I never noticed it before today. You are definitely not alone.

If you can't fix it with a hammer, you have an electrical problem.

Try squirting some silicone spray on the attachment points. It shouldn't take much. That would bug the crap out of me!
 
Silicone spray is a good idea.

A better idea would be to get silicone caulk, take off the foot rest and then put a dab of the silicone on each attachement point of the foot rest and then re-install and let dry.
 
Mine was squeaking like a mouse sometimes too.I pulled the carpet up there last week when I wired my switches to find the problem. The footrest is made out of a block of Styrofoam,that real tight stiff type , and the sound deadening matt in front of it is rubber coated. The footrest moves just enough on the rubber to cause the squeak. I took a small rag and stuffed it between them in front and fixed it.You'll see where it's rubbing once you get in there!

Wow - that still looks like a lot of trouble to me considering that it's cold outside and my garage is full of junk. I found easier solution. The other day I was in dealership changing oil and I mentioned a squeaking footrest. To my surprise the guys there took it pretty seriously. They tried to fix it but said they couldn't fix it completely so they ordered a new part from Toyota. However in their attempt to get rid of this squeak they almost fixed it, so I hear squeak now only if I try to press footrest with my hand and listen in silence. But anyway I'm waiting for a new part and I was told that repair is free under warranty. So whoever got that issue you can visit your dealership if you don't feel comfortable do it yourself - shouldn't take long to fix it.

These forums never cease to amaze me. I was just wondering about this, actually. I noticed mine doing this the other day, but as others have mentioned, it seems go away when its warmer. If its sqeaking the day I go to the dealer for an oil change I'll have them look at it, otherwise, I don't notice it "that much".
 
It was sometime after the initial creation of this post that I first head the squeak from the foot rest area. It was on a cold morning when I was getting ready to go to the dealer for an oil change. Funny thing though, when I got to the dealership the squeak went away. Most likely the car warming up.

The noise hasn't returned yet even though its been a lot colder these couple of weeks.
 
Squeaky dead pedal

Had an interesting experience with my week old SR5 today. It was well below freezing this morning and when I put my left foot on the dead pedal it squeaked like a dog toy- LOUD. It was actually pretty funny, and I was squeaking it like crazy for a while. As soon as the interior warmed up, no squeak at all. Kinda wierd- anybody else had this??
