Squealing Noise Coming From Engine Bay

So the other day I started up my 4.0L V6 4Runner with only 43000 miles and I heard a strange squealing noise. I realized that it was either my belt or pulleys. But once my car would warm up, the squealing would cease to exist. I took it up to the dealership and they looked around with a flashlight and notice little spots of pink coolant that had leaked from somewhere. They determined that it was the water pump and are replacing it as we speak. I was just wondering if this has happened to anyone else or if anyone knows about a known water pump issue with the 4.0 just so I can kind of piece together what might have caused my water pump to have a leak.

Not sure what the cause of pre-mature pump failure would be, but your warranty should cover this.
 
Well I got my water pump replaced under warranty but the problem was not fixed. My car is still making the noise until it is warmed up. :redbrick:

I don't know what is causing it, anyone have an idea at what it could be?
 
Its probably the serpentine belt. Mine squealed pretty bad after start up about 40k ( about 38k on the odo) ago. I changed it out. Mine started to squeal ago a few weeks ago but has stopped since its warmed up. I'm going to change it out again soon probably. Its easy, especially if you have a buddy.
 
Yeah, for some reason the water pumps on the 4.0's will leak about 40k or so, we're always looking for those when we get the 2GR-FE engines coming in (FJCR, Tacoma, 4Runner, ect), its a pretty common warranty repair we do at the dealership. That being said, they SHOULD have replaced the serpentine belt or at least tried to sell you one when they did the service. If that was not done, check the belt, coolant may have leaked onto the belt and made it more likely to squeak.
 
Hmm, thats interesting, mine has a strange squeal noise too, mostly in park, engine warm or not, makes a high pitch squeal, not sure what it may be but i havent gotten around to asking the dealer what it may be, i thought it ws my power steering pump, cause it makes that noise stop when i turn the wheel, but returns right away. And i havw yet to hear another one do it.
 
I have noticed a squeak as well but only when it is raining or damp out. After the engine warms up the noise goes away.

Well they didn't replace the belt so I bet that what is causing it to still squeal, is just left over coolant on it. I'm sure in a matter of days it will stop. Thanks to everyone for all of your help. :reddance:
 
There are at least 3 belt tensioners that may need to be replaced as well. I replaced my serp. belt @ about 125K, which helped for a little while. But if I left the truck outside for the night and it rained or was humid, it would still squeal in the morning until it warmed up. After changing the water pump and all 3 tensioners, the sound finally went away!
 
Definitely not my tensioners, it was probably just a little left over coolant like I said before. The noise hasn't happened in the last two days.
