clutch pedal is squeaking when I shift. Any particular points that I need to look at?
I came to this rather old thread to ask if the OP, if he's still here, has solved the problem, and how the OP solved the problem.
My clutch pedal started squeaking pretty bad. Mine is on the inside on the main spring. It's not easy to see, have to be on your back looking underneath the dash. I use silicon spary and soaked it pretty good. It stopped sqeaking for a few days, then started again, so I sprayed some more.
You are totally correct that it's impossible to see, for two reasons:
1. What you're looking for is no longer there (the P bushing)
2. You can't get your head up where you need to get it to be
The only solution I know of, other than removing the clutch pedal assembly, to diagnose the squeak for sure, is to push a cellphone camera way up above the bracket assembly, and snap a picture of the center contact point of the spring, like I did here last week:
If it is the normal 4Runner squeek then it is probably a broken clutch pedal bushing. The spring sits on a small palstic bushing which sits on another piece of metal, when the plastic breaks the two pieces of metal grind on each other causing the squeek. The bushing is a tiny horseshoe shaped piece and they are prone to breaking, replacement is simple and the piece costs $2-4 depending what dealer you go to. Do a search on clutch pedal bushing and you should be able to find a part number.

Here, by the way, is a description of the problematic QPQ bushings:
Toyota put it in a place where it's just about impossible to see right off.
I don't think you can see the P bushing with the naked eye while the pedal bracket assembly is still on the vehicle.
You have to shove a cellphone camera up there, above where you can get your head. You're looking for something that's no longer there.
Yeah its a pretty dumb design. I think most people are going with the fix on yotatech. (linked in the link I posted earlier)
The only problem with the 'standard' fixes is that nobody has bothered to list the correct part sizes yet!
For example, nobody has measured yet an OEM bushing, so, while I've measured the spring OD to be 5.0mm (which presumably is the QPQ bushing ID), nobody has yet listed the OD of the QPQ bushings (mine were destroyed so I couldn't measure them).
It looks like you are in the right location, your picture makes it hard to see. No matter what you do, DO NOT follow the write up shown above on this thread.
There are lots of repair ideas which fail.
For example, this guy broke the brass bushing replacement in a day, replacing them with nylon instead:
This repair is ridiculously simple and should take no more than 1/2 hour. If you are removing the whole clutch pedal you are wasting lots of time. I did post my write up on YT but seems it was not the one you saw above they decided to delete it on me, if you are interested in the quick easy way to replace the bushing feel free to PM me and I'll attach what I have sent to 2 or 3 others so far.
There are multiple options:
a. Replace everything (QPQ bushings, spring, and pedal)
b. Retrofit nylon bushings
(we need to know the size of the OEM bushings!)
c. Retrofit a tension spring (
we need to know the spring size that doesn't touch at two critical points during the full pedal travel!)
So what we still need are the following measurements:
1. OEM ID/OD/Length of the QPQ bushings
2. Dimensions of a linear spring that does NOT contact the pedal assembly tab or the pedal assembly bracket at ANY point in the pedal travel!
