Update.............it was the universal joints, Cottamn transmission fixed for 161, replaced both. no more noise..........l

My '00 with 140K has just developed a weild noise, on acceleration it make a squeing (sp) noise, the noise stops when speed reached, it does not do it at idle and revving etc.

Squeing??? To me thats like saying something sounds brown. I don't know what you mean.
How about squealing, rubbing, grinding, high pitched, whinning, metalic, thumping, knocking, screaming, rattling....??? Any of those fit the bill?

Squealing OK that looks better, yea it's kind of like that, and high pitched and grinding/thumping......it only does it under load, no matter how much I rev in nuetral of park it will not do it, and sort of just under acceleration once at speed it stops! My son is pretty good mechanically, he can not figure it out, any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

You are going to need to investigate this a lot more. Thump? When and any idea where? Grinding? again any indication of where is beneficial. Does this occur when the vehicle is in motion but without depressing the accelerator, or only when accelerating? Does it remain constant , worsen, or go away when turning toward any direction? These are all things you need to look at. It may help to attempt to duplicate the problem as the vehicle is on jack stands and it may not be necessary to run the engine either.

mine does it too. usually in the mornings. my father has a hunch that its the power steering.

my thought is something squealing, but it only does it when there is moisture in the air. thats what ive noticed.

my car is about to go to the body shop, and then probably to Toyota to have it looked at. I will post if i fix it...but it'll be awhile.

oh and...damn that squealing is so annoying! at 45 mph, i still hear it!

Squealing is usually one of the belts, or a pulley associated with the belts. Check them first. Check their condition and tension.

i actually think its the idler pulley. that fits the description pretty well of tommy's problem.

pretty sure that mine is doing that.

Update, guys thanks for all the responses, I probably was not discriptive enough, but took it to, of all places, Cottman transmission, it was the universal joints, the guy said they where ready to give, anyway for 161 they replaced both, she runs sweet with no noise, just want to update if anybody else has these weild noises.

Ah, the U Joints.. don't they have a grease port? How often are they supposed to be greased? I took a look at mine while replacing the transmission mount ( I recommend anyone with a high mileage runner check this, it solved my highway speed vibration issue) and didn't see a grease port. FYI- It's a 97 LTD.
