"squishy" break pedal?

Driving around this morning on the way to class and when the song was changing on my ipod and it was quiet inside (2011 trail edition with 1000 miles) and I noticed when I pushed the break (no matter how hard or soft I pressed) you could hear a squishing noise. I couldn't tell if it was coming through the speakers or if it was the pedal itself. It sounded like I was stepping on a bag of marshmellows. Does anyone have this issue as well?
