Do I have it or not? Recovery hooks seems to be not too obstructed but I didn't remove anything. Where's that thing you're removing?

I believe Antman's referring to the U.S. SR-5 and Limited models. The (much better looking) canadian SR5 doesn't have these issues.

Question....the TE does not have this piece (different bumpers and all), but if I remove this black piece and all associated pieces with it.....is there a part that is on the trail that should be added for protection/safety?

Take a close look at Scanny's pics a few threads up, with his Canadian SR5 (I'm slightly jealous, eh?)
The skid plate has cooling ducts built in, with a mesh screen to keep rocks, etc. out. That's what's under your plastic junk as well.:zoom:

That is what I thought was I was laying on my back with screwdriver in hand wondering if I want to do this. It looks like a couple of those screws are kind of tough to get at, any tips?

It's pretty straightforward. A couple of screws will be reused after the airdam comes off (like the ones for the wheelwells). It'll be obvious once you start removing- it is confusing to look at ; darn over-engineers!

If you are unsure, remove everything (screw-wise) from one side and see what you have. That way you still have the other side for reference if you change your mind...

After working with this truck for a good number of months, I have decided that as far as the bumper trimmings and bumpers themselves go, this truck is built much more like a car than a truck.

Luckily though there are aftermarket companies out there chasing down these OEM misfortunes with a vengeance. We developed a solution for the rocker panel covers on the SR5 & Limiteds so that your dont have to spend $300+ for more plastic. And well, there is always our bumpers as well....

I just miss when a bumper was a bumper, and less of an extention of the body.

This was the prototype set so we dont have pricing put together just yet, but it will be a much more inepensive and cleaner solution to the trail ed. molding for you limited/sr5 guys. Notice the fender flare cap as well.

I don't have to get permission for free (relatively) Mods-
When I escorted The Boss into the garage to see the cupholders in my bumper, she just shook her head and went back into the house.

Gotta wait for the right moment- I managed to score the Gobi, so this one will come in time...Happy wife=Happy life.

The Rear fender looks perfectly fine. It ends and thats that, the front on the other hand had a bunch of ugly bracketry hanging down below it when you take of the SR5/Limited molding. If its not broke, dont fix it ; )

Well done! This seems like a nice lower cost alternative. Not perfect but damn much more better. For those doing this for more off road clearance you will still need to consider the front and rear but I'm happy to see options such as this.

Nothing some expandable foam could fix.
