SR5 Factory Leather Option

Hey guys I just picked up an SR5 that supposedly has factory leather. It doesn't look like my limited's leather seats though so I am curious to see what you guys have as far as pics of yours. Here is the brochure that shows that you can in fact get leather on the SR5 for people who don't know:

Here are what mine look like lets see yours! I am curious to know if they are the real deal or not lol.

my 97 SR5 had leather, and it looked different than that even with wear. I'd be willing to bet that was reupholstered. If it had leather to begin with or not doesn't really matter. Stitching looks pretty damn good too.

My 97 sr5 is leather and is different from your pic. I know I have seen many 4runners limited and sr5 with the same interior as yours tho.i like that style compared to mine to mine tho looks more modern

I'm not near my 4Runner, so I can't take pics. I bought my '97 new off the lot in '97, it is an SR5 4wd, V6, 5-speed, E-locker with the factory oak leather. IIRC, it was a $1500.00 option. My factory leather seats don't look like what you have. The color is fairly close, but the seat pattern is different.

It looks like someone had an aftermarket leather kit installed at some point. Those aftermarket leather kits were added to a lot of 4Runners. My Sister had one installed in her '01.

Thanks for all the reply's guys! I had a sneaking suspcion that it was an aftermarket deal, but since it looked so nice I didn't mind. The only thing that made me think it may have been original is because I do have the leather trimmed shift knob. :bigok:

I am guessing it is aftermarket, but any way the truck has only 81k on the clock so it will look pretty good either way lol

Very nice! Other than my leather not being genuine we have pretty much the same truck lol. I am excited to fly down and pick it up! I wish saturday would just get here!!!

Definitely looks like they had the leather reupholstered. Looks great!

I'm gonna guess by the wear on the drivers seat that it has been there for some time, like since new. It's not nearly as bad as my 99 is though since that one is almost wore through.

The factory installed SR5 leather looked just like the leather in the Limited. Any leather in an SR5 that does not look like the leather from a Limited is either dealer or port installed.

Or installed by the owner.

Or at the request of the Owner, by an aftermarket automotive upholstery company. Which is the route my Sister took.

I was just informed by the dealer that it was most likely a port install

Resurrecting this thread. My 2002 SR5 3rd gen has leather that matches what I've seen in the limited, but no heated seats? The steering wheel is also leather wrapped.

I've never personally seen another 3rd gen SR5 that had leather and odd that choosing that did not get heated seats as well don't you guys think?

I have 3rd gens 2 that are limited leather that didn't have heated seats. Another has leather but not limited. All others have cloth seats. None of my 5 have heated seats. All 6 including my parts mobile have leather wrapped steering wheels.

Leather was a dealer option. I've seen way more SR5's with leather and without heated seats as opposed to with. I'm pretty sure that the Limited's were the only model that came standard with both leather and heated seats.

The heated seats didn't come out until 01 and 02 as their circuits are not in the EWD.

So anything older then 01 probably had them added in by an owner.

Factory heated seats were a very rare option late in the 3rd gens lifespan, I've seen only a couple equipped with them out of likely over 1,000 at this point.

Interesting how Toyota did (or does) things I guess. I've never seen another SR5 around here with leather, ever. Mine looks factory installed but dealer could have had it added I reckon.

My seats are still in pretty good shape although driver could definitely use new foam and the bottom will need doing in a couple years. I'm gonna add heated seats just not sure if I'll wait or do it now. Once the seat is torn down would be a shame to just put the old leather back on there. I usually like to upgrade when I'm in to something.

I bought mine new in '99 and it came with leather seats. I know, because I was in the dealer whining I wanted a 5speed and he was saying he wouldn't know if one was coming until the truck arrived. At that moment the truck pulled in, we went out and looked, and I bought my IJM 5speed SR5 before the wheels hit the ground. So I know the dealer did not add it. I understood the leather was part of higher grade SR5 trim package from the factory. It also had the SR5 wood (real wood) interior trim.

Mine is identical to that posted by MTD. I'd like to compare closeups of the seam stitching on the outside edge to the OPs. If those match, it could be factory. From the posted pic, I can't really tell. On MTD's, I can.

I was looking at your site. Looks like your center console lid has stitching on it. That is a sign that the leather is more than likely factory. Aftermarket installs leave this detail out in every case I've seen so far. It is a rather uncommon option in SR5s that existed in the entire run. I have a 1996 with this package as well.
