Frame rust in the NorthWest?

Hey guys, I live in NE Ohio where no 3rd gen has survived without significant frame damage. I am considering buying a salvage vehicle from Seattle and was curious what kind of damage is common out there from salt. Doesn't seem like you coat your roads with tons of sticky salt brine mess daily, (even when no snow is forecasted, lol) from what I have read online, and was hoping frames are unaffected for the most part.

While salt isn't outright banned in most west coast states, it is rarely used - and the freeze-thaw cycle that really gets the rust going is also rare.

Rust out here happens if the vehicle is very close to the coast and that's about it.

Still shouldn't be hard to get a couple pictures of the undercarriage to get a good idea how bad it might be. Even a single picture of the inside of the frame where the rear lower link meets the frame on the passenger side should be enough.

Thanks for the information Charlie . When you buy a salvage vehicle, you only get pics of the exterior and interior.

You can also infer some from an engine bay shot - if you see ANY rust in an engine bay, assume road salt, etc. West coast vehicles will be 100% rust free in the engine bay.

Also, a VIN check of some sort to tell you the registration history (location) will be helpful.
