SR5 Fender Flare Application

I remember scanning over an older post about products to keep the flares in decent shape. Does anyone know of any thing to keep these plastic flares from fading or have any suggestions?

Mother's makes a product called Back to Black.

I've used it on other vehicles and turns out nice. However, its not permanent and will need to be reapplied from time to time.

This was always a big topic on a BMW forum that I used to frequent. Some have tried peanut butter. There is a die that is more permanent and more time consuming.

I used this stuff called Black Wow. I looked really good the first day, but it didn't last too long. Looked just as bad after a week. Would not recommend it.

Thanks guys!! Honestly, I'd love to take 'em off and ditch the running boards but the clear coat underneath is demolished. Second option is to keep them looking as good as I can for as long as I can. The dye sounds interesting. I'm sure some people have attempted painting or even spray bed liner, which will probably be the fate of my chrome bumpers down the road

Not sure if you're talking about the Back to Black, but its not a dye. It is more of a polish to keep the plastic looking "wet."

I used to use back to black by mothers but eventually your plastic will dry out and you go through way too much for it to be reasonable. What I do is take a afternoon or morning, remove or tape off my plastic trim(removing once every 6 months keeps the bolts from getting stuck permanently) and clean it and spray it with some plastic intended spray paint of your choice. Holds up great and it goes back to brand new. It looks awesome!

Thanks for painting idea Bronco. I feared the Mother's and Mequire's apps would only delay the inevitable. Any good brand names for plastic paint? I'd love to get those flares back up to par.

i have used back to black but i have discovered something that looks a lot better, IMO. I use it on everything black that kind of fades, its called Meguiars shine polish. I think it makes a huge difference here is an example of using it on my hitch, flat black wheels, and spoiler. i did it on my bumper too but i dont think you can tell on these pics

but yeah it makes the plastic on your rood rack, the trim on your windows, really what ever its fading look black again. Love the stuff! :thumb3:
