SR5 Horn Installation

Whats up guys,

New member here, but I've been lurking on this website for a few months and wanted to re-visit a topic already discussed and hope someone could assist me.

I own a 2010 SR5 and purchased the FIAMM horns that were discussed on another thread (harper7, wareagle and TitansPat57?) Could any of you or someone else clarify HOW the 2 FIAMM Horns would be installed onto the one STOCK location?

My friend is a mechanic and is concerned about splitting wires (and I KNOW it was stated you dont have to perform a cutting of the wires)...i apologize for the ignorance fellas..i hope someone could break it down step by step how it would be done. :hatsoff:

I can't speak for the SR5...mine was done on a TE. The original hole would not allow the horn to clear the radiator....tried everyway till sunday.

The natural choice was a bracket holding the front grill on.

Pm me if there any electrical questions, but maybe a few of the SR5 owners can hop in.

First off, Thanks Titan for the immediate reply and congrats to you on your Trail Edition! :dancin: I installed one FIAMM horn on the stock bracket..so it sounds SLIGHTLY better...hopefully some SR5 owners can chime in on how the other horn gets installed :shrug:

I did the same thing! My SR5 has the same horn as my husbands Matrix, how is that fair?

I installed mine last night... I put the two horns side by side on a piece of metal right under the hood latch. I will try and put a picture up later because I am going to redo the wiring harness that I made in a hurry last night. Let me know if you have any issues and I can give you a more detailed walk through.:hatsoff:

Im away on business so im not with my car for pictures but there are some on the forum in the other Fiamm thread

Here is the process the best i can recall

1) Removecowling by pressing down on the rivets while lifting the cowling (I pushed down the center of the "buttons" with a flat head and pulled up on the cowling)

2) Locate original horn and remove the wiring harness

3) remove the horn by taking out the bolt holding it in place

4) take the new horns and bolt on the brackets they gave you and make sure the horns are facing down at a 45 degree angle so water doesn't pool up in them

5) Making the wiring harness.You need a male and 2 female plugs (IE one that will fit into the factory horn wiring and two that will fit the Fiamm male connections), 3 pieces of wire about 4" long, electrical tape and a wire connector. Im not sure how familiar you are with wiring, but let me know if you need more details... First, take the three pieces of wire and strip both ends of each... Next attached attach the male plug to one end of the wire, a female to one end of wire 2, and a female to one end of wire three... attach the female end to the male ]connector on each one of the horns and the male to the 4runners original horn wiring. Keep the wire connector handy for later in the process

6) Locate the metal strip under neath the hood latch that was in the picture I posted. Find a nut,bolt, and washers that will fit through the horn brackets and the metal piece under the hood latch.

7) Take a rat file or some serious sand paper and sand down the piece of metal to give the horns a good ground connection

8)mount the horns side by side facing forward and down at a 45 degree angle (IE Horn then Metal under hood latch then other Horn)

9) Take your three pieces of wire with stripped ends and connect them using the wire connector

10) Turn on car and test horn

11) replace cowling and enjoy the new horns
