Has anyone towed the 2010 4Runner SR5 behind a motorhome with the Transfer Case in Neutral and the Automatic Transmission in Park? I would appreciate any comments that you may have.

Regards,

Gaetan

Unless I am mistaken, it is not possible to put transfer case in neutral on the AWD or select systems. As for towing a 4Runner flat (toad) with all four wheels on the ground, I believe Toyota does not recommend it.

The 2010 SR5 4Runner does not have an electronic transfer case like the 4Runner Limited. It has a manual transfer case with a stick lever coming out of the transfer case like those that we saw years ago. You can move the lever to 2WD, 4LWD, 4HWD and a Neutral Position. So with the transfer case in the neutral position, the rotation of the drive shaft from the rear differential, when towing behind a motorhome, is not transmitted to the transmission thus no abnormal wear and tear can take place. Furthermore, unless I am mistaken, the lubrication of the manual transfer case is accomplished by splashing and not by a pump like the transmission.

Any comments!

"Dinghy towing" (4 wheels on the ground in a 4x4 as TechWrench mentioned) a 4th Gen is specifically not recommended in the owner's manual.
What does the 5th Gen manual say?
