SR5 V6 0-60 time

Questions:

1) Any data on 0-60 time on both the V6 4X2 and V8 4X2?

I am very curious on this since i think the v6 might accelerate faster but the V8 has the higher capacity to tow more stuff.

Okay, someone with deep pockets needs to get one of these Passport Vehicle Performance Computers and give us results! :) Or perhaps someone who also has a performance car already has one and can put it in a couple 4runners for measurements?

I think those stats from car-stats.com are both for the V8. They're from Car & Driver (0-60 8 sec) and Motor Trend (0-60 7.8 sec). Both of those mags tested the V8 version and were probably 4x4s too.

On MSN Carpoint, it said the 2003 V8 4X4 Limited could do 0-60 in 7.1 seconds. Seems a little too fast though! I also thought that the V8 would be a lot quicker than the V6 due to the torque.

The V8 is also heavier so in terms of acceleration it may not be quicker than the v6.
 
the v6 and v8 are about even.

the v8 has about 270lbs at 1100 rpm and builds up to 320lbs. this will offset the extra weight on the v8.

the v6 only builds up to 282lb, so it has less torque but has less weight to move also.
 
The V8 is a few tenths of a second faster in the 0-60 catagory. Essentially maybe a car length? I wonder what the SuperCharger for the 4.0 liter is going to be like this fall. It's supposed to be available on the new X-Runner truck. Probably the same aluminum V6 as the 4runner.

Maybe 305HP and 350ft/lbs??? (Using a 25% increase)

Yup. Around 300 HP with the optional S/C. It might be a direct swap. Would the 4runner 4 speed A/T take the HP????

I've heard rumors that the V6 is getting the 5-speed automatic as an option late this model year, then standard in the 2005 model year. Maybe changing the transmission will be needed to allow for the extra power...?
 
You guys are all off on this one...

The V8 4 Runner does 0-60 anywhere from 7.6 to 7.9, depending on the testers, vehicles, conditions...

The V6 4 Runner does it in the high 8's, somewhere around 8.6, I believe.

Any of you 4.0 V6 owners wanna race me, let me know ;-)

Burnin your correct. I did research before purchasing my 4runner and the v8 is between .8 and .9 seconds faster.

I read a few things that said 7.2-7.4 but who knows if the driver was torque braking the thing then taking off to get the best numbers, for myself I've taken afew 7 second cars so I wonder how fast this thing really is.

The V8 with the SC is suppost to do 5.6, 0-60 now just imagine the faces of the guys behind the 4.6/4.8 or and AMG ML55, now if we could only corner as well:)
 
Coming out of a four year ride in a mid five second SUV, my SOTP read on my new 4R is low to mid sevens. I've only really gotten it once :satan: - I was provoked; I had a duty! It was very responsive, revved quickly, and shifted firm. Naturally, it lacked some of that ole 'hovercraft' torque raise, but worked very well for stone stock.
 
I had G-tech to do some testing on my 4runner right...I did the 0-60, my time was like 11.25. AHHHH! It was a while ago when i had my stock goodyear tires with no tread.

The 2004 4.0 v6 actually outperforms the 4.7 v8 in 0-60 times. It doesn't surprise me.

VVT in the 4.0 = a nice steady torque curve. The v8 has more peak grunt, but the curve isn't as smooth. Remember, horsepower is a measure of torque over a range of rpm's.

The addition of VVT to the v8 for 2005 will no doubt change things dramitically.
