Stacking spacers on Icon Coilovers

I'm thinking about getting a bit more lift on my car by adding a spacer on my Icon coilovers. Was looking to get 1/2" spacers in the front to gain an inch.

I was wondering if it's at all possible, if anyone has done this, if it will effect how soft/stiff the ride is, or any other things I'd have to worry about trying this?

Also, is it possible for the rear too? Addingspacers on top of some bilstein 5100 shocks?

I know it's possible in the back. Mike has All Pro spacers in the back I believe. It says so in his build at least.
 
If you have the Icon's at the highest setting you should be at about 3" of lift. If you went any higher you could possibly run into problems with the CV angles. I don't have any direct experience, so if anyone is more knowledgeable they should chime in.

I cant comment on icon ride quality, but I would say you shouldnt have any issues with a 1/2" spacer, it's like the toytec top plate. You may lose some downtravel, but whatever.

Why not just crank the coilover up?

Rear, you add spacers to springs, not shocks. You can do whatever you want, i wouldn't exceed ~2" with the 5100s in the rear
 
Do you have standard or extended travel icons? Stock ucas or aftermarket? Adding spacers to the front can cause issues (too much down travel). If you don't already, I'd suggest a body lift for additional height. No added stress, no change in ride, and relatively inexpensive.
 
To answer your question. You can add a top plate spacer on the coilover for some additional clearance. However, I would not over crank the Coilovers if you offroad at all. The ride quality will turn to crap quickly. I would pick a reasonable preload like 1.5" or less. Maxing out your coilovers is a waste of a well designed system.
 
I did a 1/2'' spacer on my radflos. Gave the extra lift, but gave too much downtravel and the balljoints would bind at full droop as well as the upper arm would hit the spring. Not recommended, but it does technically work.
 
thanks for all the responses! this was more just a feeler thread, seeing if it's possible and what potential problems it may cause, still havent decided whether or not I want to actually do this

My coilovers are cranked almost all the way up, currently at 1.5"-1.75" (max is 2") but I want MOAR LYFT! theres some mean looking curbs at the mall I'm trying to clear!:thumb3:

I have the standard coilovers with LR UCAs.

Body lift is in the near future as well, I was just wondering if I can do both body lift as well as a small spacer for the coilovers.

Yeah, Icon suggests not to preload past 2" and I'm around 1.5-1.75"

Cornfed will make you any size you want but $$$ I'd get a daystar spacer and shave it down 1/2" for the rear

Depending on the design and internal clearances of the ICON shocks, you might also run the risk of bottoming out the shocks at full compression and damaging them...IMO the juice is not worth the squeeze here. If anything double check with ICON and see if they can give you definite answer.

I'm planning to go to 3 in the front and 2 in the back. Shouldn't the Icon set up take care of this? If I'm only putting the Icons at 1.75 that seems silly.
 
Since you have standard travel and aftermarket ucas, you would be safe with the down travel. The extended length coilovers are 1/2" longer than the standard, so same length if you add a 1/2" spacer. You'd want to extend the bump stops to prevent bottoming out the shocks as mentioned above. Also have to consider CV angles and increased wear if you go over 3" lift.
