Stalling Problem

I have a 1995 4WD Auto that I got about six months ago. Driven it about two thousand miles and had the following problem three times.

While under power at freeway speeds, twice the engine has "hiccuped." All power was suddenly lost for a split second and the engine light flickered... As quickly as it stopped, full power was restored and I kept going with no problem.

Yesterday, while at a red light, the engine stalls. Went from smooth idle to stopped just as if I had turned the ignition off. Switch to neutral and restart with no problem.

The motor has new plugs, wires, and distributor. Not sure about the coils. As the problem comes on so quickly (and disappears quickly), I'm thinking this is a spark problem... Anyone have ideas? All I can think of would be to replace the coils. Is there a way to test them?

About half of the ECU codes stored on the first & second generation EFI Toyotas don't show a constant blinking check engine light therefore you must pull the ECU codes to see if a fault is registered.
To pull the ECU codes:

Pulling the ECU codes is the first thing I do to diagnosis a problem thereafter I reset the ECU to see if the same problems show up and if so I then take voltage measurements both with the engine running and not and compare with the factory service manual,I also close the ignition switch after a cold engine and also after a warm engine and compare them with the factory service manual.This technique will completely isolate your problem without having to do trial and error and it is the technique I use when repairing tv's,vcr's,home/car audio.

Okay, I checked the ECU. The check engine light flashes continuously, so it looks like no trouble codes stored...

Back to square one.

you might want to check your grounds for corrosion..especially @ the battery..also keep an eye on your coolant system..just a couple of guesses

When I first got my '92 3.0, the vehicle would buck and snort with no warning. Other times, it would have practially NO power ( yes, even less than normal). After trying 'everything' : tune up, gallons of injector cleaner, new battery, new rotor cap and button, new O2 sensor, new fuel filter and even having a tranny shop drive it,,,, I finally discovered it was the fuel pump. I was gettin an O2 sensor code on the engine light.

You should check the fuel pressure and flow, both on the tank side of the fuel filter and past the filter side.

I had the same kinds of problems with my 92. The first thing to check will be a new distributor cap & rotor. After that cheap fix I would go with the fuel pump, but check the wires going to it first, they corrode away pretty easy (happened on my 85)
