Standard shift diesel

Every continent in the world, except North America, has standard shift diesel Tacomas/Hilux and 4Runners (and Land Rover Defenders for that matter).

So, why does Toyota think that we in North American don't want a standard shift diesel option?

Because every country in the world does not have our unique laws, regulations, politicians, standards, (stand of living included) markets and especially energy costs. If something changed, say, our wonderful EPA and other regulators relaxed their standards, our fuel prices became more in line with other countries AND we got rid of the chicken tax then we would get diesels. The diesels currently for sale here are hopelessly complex and expensive to maintain.
