Starter issue

So this one has me stumped. I got a motor put in my 86 4 runner a couple months ago and the starter went bad the day I drove it home... or so I thought. I haven’t messed with it because of hunting season. Well a couple days ago I had do replace the alternator and serpentine belt in my tacoma so figured why not get the 4runner going again as well. So I put a new starter in it and everything started and ran fine. I drove it about 30 min and when I cut the truck off and tried to restart it the same thing happened. I can here the starter spinning but I it is like it’s not engaging. Keep in mind this is two times this has happened since putting the new motor in. Drove it for about 30 min both times and then it won’t start. Any thoughts or input would be appreciated.

the starter is spinning but not engaging?

Can you bench test the starter to make sure the bendix is coming out? Or maybe any teeth missing on the flywheel?

There aren’t any teeth missing on the flywheel. I need to pull the starter again and bench test it I guess. I’m thinking it’s a different issue due to the fact that it has happened both times I have driven it since the new motor was put in. I’m wondering if a voltage issue could cause this.
