So my design is very similar to many that have been built before on the forums. but i figure ill show everyone and let me know what you think. Also how heavy is to heavy....its currently 123lbs and still need to add a tire carrier on top of that. it is pure beef tho :D

The pipes going to the wings are spec'd at 1.25x.065 and the two supporting the hitch are spec'd at 1.25x.120, all the plate is 3/16 and the main tube is 4x2x.25. is this a little overkill?

Nice. Wish I had SW but sadly I use Pro/E... :(

Anyway, how do you plan to physically build it? Will you be cutting the sheet metal yourself and welding all the seems and joints or do you have access to a press brake to do some bends?

im probly going to send the drawings out to a cnc plasma cutter shop in town, then i have access to most any tool i could ever need on the campus shop. then ill just weld it up at the seems, thinking about making the back corner a nice curve rather then 90*

I agree. The sharp corner looks 'cheap' to me. Wouldn't need a big radius either, just something to make it fit with the body lines a little better and something that you don't keep smashing your legs and hips into. You can reduce a lot of the required welding by designing bends into the pieces.

I think you got the idea from BruceTS' bumper design. I have one of the later ones he made, let me tell ya, you don't need to use 3/16' all around. mine weights 70-80lbs. I installed it all by myself after (spray)painted it with a ratchet and a wrench.

there's a detailed build thread on UT.

I used 11 ga. for the sides on mine. 3/16 for the mounting, braces and main tube... It's beef too. 11 ga is fine, you'd rather have the bumper "give" before the frame did... :D
