Thought I would post this up: StartMail just went into beta- its a private email service that doesnt scan your stuff, and also gives you the option to encrypt emails with a one-time pad, which I thought was pretty neat. Not sure I would ever really need that, but whatever.

You can also use StartPage.com- it routes your searches through an offshore network that scrubs personal info before handing it off to the regular search engines. Actually a pretty decent alternative to having people scan everything you email and search for targeted advertising

ah bummer. I just got the email today that it is now fully functional, so just logged in for the first time. It looks like a nice clean interface, you have an option to create an email alias for various lengths of time- might be great for a more secure way of dealing with craigslist stuff. I'll post more as I learn about it if you guys want
