Stealership Brand New Battery - COMPLETELY DRAINED

So, I was noticing the truck was chugging a bit before starting so had a feeliong battery was gonna need to be swapped sooner than later.

Fast forward 2 weeks and she's completely dead at the gas pump, had to jump it to get going and went right to my local dealership.

Mainly went with the dealership battery for the $140 price and 84 month warranty.

Now I get all the way home, install the new battery and zilch - no crank no clicks no power whatsoever. I throw a voltage tester on it and it reads 0.11 Volts.

Brought it back to the dealership and after serviceman told me it was absolutely not possible the Toyota battery tester read a big fat 0.

Has anyone ever had a similar experience??

That can happen no matter where you get a battery. I have had that happen to me twice. Brand new battery from Auto Zone was totally dead and one from O'Reiley was same thing. They aren't tested by any retailers so they don't know if they're selling a bum battery. They just trust the manufacturer same as we just trust the retailer. It's just bad luck but it's not rare.

There's no way your battery read "0.11 volts" on a proper testing rig.

Have the dealer or auto parts store test your alternator. A bad diode in the alternator can cause rapid discharge of the battery.

So you decided to throw a battery at your concern and it didn’t fix it? Did the dealer diagnose it as a bad battery? I hope you weren’t measuring the Voltage drop across the positive terminal and that how you got .11 Volts. God you can’t make this up :nicethread:

He’s got a 2016 and should have had a proper test done on the system to isolate the real issue.

It's possible you got a bad battery, but I'd test your alternator ASAP. if your alternator is bad then bye bye battery.

I doubt it, he’s be one lucky SOB if he got a defective battery.

Initial test of 0.11 volts was on a $2 HF multi meter

I brought the battery back in to DS and they confirmed it was a truly dead battery and handed me a brand new one. Problem solved
