Stealership RipOff 30k/60k service

Was going to get the stealership 30k service done while they have my 03 4runner for a crapped out moonroof (they ordered a new moonroof and motor).

I asked after the service advisor had my order complete, How much is the 30k service, and what gets done. He handed me a generic DEALERship pamphlet with various mileage services to be performed. The 30k and 60k are identical.

Almost half of their "service" items are simply impossible to perform on my truck. No ditributor, rotor, or vacuum advance, no manual tranny, maintenance free battery ect.

Also, there are only a few parts invloved. 6 regular spark plugs (V6), air filter , oil filter, wiper inserts, and some kind of additive to clean the suel system.

Can you all see how much they wanted for this???? $390!!! Of course I cancelled the service, but will get just the oil change. I will get the things that NEED to be done per the 4runner service manual completed at a regular garage for a hell of a lot less.

OMG!! I didn't realize it was that much. That's freakin' ridiculous! I'll have to look through my manual again to see what it says needs done (only at about 19k now). There's no way I'm paying that much for the 30k and 60k checkups.

I just dropped off my '02 tonight for the ball joint recall and they also handed me a service sheet. Gotta love all of the "check" and "inspect". As if they don't do that already so that they can tell you what is wrong when they "checked" or "inspected" it. Why would I pay them to do it?

The more they put on the sheets of paper the more they think its alright to charge us more. I hope everyone looks at what they are paying for.. because most people don't.

maybe i should pay more attention? i just drop it off and pay the bill when its done i do read it over and make sure they did everything, i haven't really had any problems where i thought they were fixing things that didnt need it though.

I changed my own plugs V6, oil, airfilter, wiper blades, inspected my lights and horn and checked my air pressure for under $50. Now that is one hell of a deal.

where do you bring your truck to service? canyon creek?

canyon creek = bad service in my opinion.

i take it to either High River Toyota, Canyon Creek or Heninger. whichever is closest to where i want to be for the day. High River picks up the truck, and drops off a loaner so if i don't want to or don't have time i don't have to go into the dealership.
i haven't had issues with canyon creeks service yet.

Here are my 2 closest dealerships:

I too am due and asked to see what they do. Note that one is over $400 and the other is over $500! I am now trying to find a good shop to get the essentials done. I don't think we are being cheap, just not willing to throw away our money.

I do my own 30 K mile maintenance. I change the coolant and the tranny twice, since I cannot easily flush them. Then I fill in an Excel Spreadsheet with the volumes, price, pn#s, etc. I also fill in some notes like the torque settings and size tool that I used. Once done, the next time around is really fast. I spent $ 117 for the 30 K mile maintenance. The only OEM stuff that I used was Toyota coolant, AFT fluid, & oil filter.

Because it is so cheap, I may decide to do the maintenance frequency at every 20 k miles instead of every 30 k.
