Steering Column Noise & Leaking Vents?

I tried to see if anyone has posted about these issues but couldn't find any.

Does anyone have a noise in their steering column when they make a 90 degree turn? It only happens when I have the turn signal on and it isn't consistent but it sounds like something small (like a metal BB) rolling around in the column. It wouldn't act up when I had it to the dealer for an oil change :rockthrow:

I also feel cold air coming out of my vents when the temp is set to cold but the blower is in the off position. It happens with hot air leaking from the vents when the temp is set to heat.

Any advice is greatly appeciated!

Not sure about the steering column noise, but for the issue with the vents, push the cabin recirculation button when the blower is in the off position. This will stop air from "leaking" in.

Note: This will not work if the air is set on defrost position (windshield).

I have the steering noise, and I think I've isolated it to when the turn signal is on and it's the dragging of plastic over the catch mechanism. I need to get it repaired/replaced under warranty. It started around 16k and I'm now around 18k.

Just started hearing the same noise, and it's exactly as you describe.

Thank you!

Thanks for the "recirculation" button advice! I will try that tonight. Also, thank you for the steering wheel comments too. I'll have to tack that on to my next dealer visit!

Here's the noise mine makes.

EDIT: wow epic iPhone fail there. that video never showed up.

Mine makes the same noise - happens when the signal is on, and turning left only. So far no noise turning right.

mentioned the steering column noise to the dealer guy. service did _something_ and the noise is basically gone.

The exact same thing happens in my 4Runner. When using a turn signal and turning left, there is a creaking noise while straightening the wheel. I've never heard the noise when turning to the right.

The dealer has said on two occasions that they're not able to hear it-- I guess I will have to ride along with them next time.

Ditto on the steering wheel noise. Only on left turns with turn signal on and when coming out of the turn. Weird. Anyone know what's causing it?
