Steering Column wiring for Perfomance fog Light Kit.

Fellas,

I need a little help. First off. I'm a lucky owner of Perfomance Products Fog Lightsfor my 1997 4Runner Limited Edition 4x4. I did the installation last night only to run into problems at the wiring. I was supposed to connect the Scotchlock from the purple wire and the red/yellow wire. Can someone shoot an actual picture (photo) of what it looks like? I connected it, but I think I have the wrong wire because my fogs will not come on. I'm a newbie at the website and I was able to do some mods on my 4Runner, but I'm not great at wiring stuff. Can someone please help?

what colors are the wires that you are supposed connnect your lights to and how many are there?

The kit came with a Scotchlock connector. What I'm supposed to do is connect the purple wire along (came w/kit) with the red/yellow wire (steering column). This is supposed to activiate the fog lights when the low beam is on and the fog light switch is turned on.

When I tried it, the switch light came on and the fog lights didn't turn on. When I hit the high beams, the light on the fog switch goes off. Now it's just a matter of trying to find out where the short is. I ended buying a volt meter this morning. Any suggestions?

Additional info.

The wiring harness comes as follows:

Black Connector - Grounded to where negative ground was.

Red Connector - Connected to positive terminal also have fuse relay connected to it.

Black/Yellow wires - goes directly to switch. (That's where I connect the purple, yellow, and black wire to the switch.

Green wires - go to fog lights.

I guess all of the wires go to a (relay), but in the instructions, they said to use a relay kit to bolt that to the inside of the fender. The guy at customer services says that you don't need it and it should work. What I can do is take some pictures and post them for better clarification.

Okay well your wiring setup is different then the wiring diagram I have, mine is for an 02 4runner I was hoping maybe they didnt change the wiring/ What I did to score my wiring diagram was call the parts department at your local dealer let them no what your trying to do and ask them to check a wiring diagram for your 97. most likely the will have no problem doing it. I was able to get an entire diagram emailed to me, not bad considering they sell for about 100 bucks............................ good luck!

not sure how it is for your 97, but i installed a hella kit in my previous 02 sr5. did your kit come with the relay? the kit for the 02 came with those scotchlocks, and the relay to plug in the fuseblock under the hood. I don't remember the exact colors of the wires i tapped into though, sorry. hope you get it sorted out I guess a call to your dealer is in order. hopefully you'll get lucky like Lime02sport

I finally got it

Hey guys,

Thanks for your input. But the solution was easy. The log light kit that I bought from performance products didn't have the relay. The reason I found out was I went to kragan and looked at a set of Hella 530's. Sure enough, there was the relay. I have to call them tomorrow to get one. In the meantime, I bought the relay from Toyota and plug it in and it works.
