Steering issue with 2013 and bilstein 5100?

A little background info to start.I am running LT 275 55 R20 TOYO MT'S on my 2013 limited.
When I took the shocks into the dealer to have them installed they put them in using the 2.5 at the front and told me they are not adjustable??? I thought that was weird but now that they are installed I can't see the adjustment ring but I can feel the grooves where the snap ring can be adjusted but I can't see the snap ring. Is this normal? Anyway I drive it home from Toyota, nose to the sky, thinking I'll get the spacer installed my next days off but when I was driving home the front passenger side was making a lot of noise. I looked at the shock and the top nut was not tightened to the bushing it was 1/2 an inch above. I then took it a shop that does lifts and they got a spacer for the back. When I asked if they would adjust the shocks on the front they recommended not adjusting them because I would need another wheel alignment but they would tighten the nut (which was stripped at the dealer).

I get the truck back and take it to work. I work a 10 on and 4 off shift. The truck wants to wander with every bump I hit. After driving it at work for ten days its getting worse and worse. When I get home I look under the front end and find the bracket holding the stabilizer bar hanging by one bolt and the bushing fell off right in the driveway. The front tires are all worn on the outside so I look at the invoice from Toyota and there was never an alignment done. At this point I am extremely angry as the tires have less than 10,000 km and half the outer edge is gone. Way too much positive camber. At $4000 for tires I am pissed off.

I took it back to the dealer and they had it for 10 days. When I went to pick it up they still weren't ready stating they needed a new camber adjustment -something or other. The stabilizer was fixed for free and they said they did an alignment. When I asked about the tires he said to drive it for a week and get back to him.
Something still feels wrong the handling sucks. It won't stay straight over bumps. Seems fine on flat level pavement. Could be a result of the damaged tires? Could be a steering adjustment . Could be that the snap ring is missing entirely. Not sure if they came installed in the box or not. I gave the box to Toyota unopened. Any ideas?? I have to take it back Thursday morning. Their suggestion is to put it back to factory. It can't be that everyone has this problem. Help me out here guys. What to do? I assume the snap ring is there or there would be play in the spring.

The alignment probably isn't very good, get the spec sheet. Even with a good alignment at 2.5" lift in front, your caster is going to be low and it won't handle well, mostly vague steering and darting on the highway. To get a good alignment you'll need aftermarket upper control arms with added caster built in.

i have a 3'' OME lift and was able to get the alignment back to spec except for caster( i have control arms just working on my '85 too much to put them on at the moment). I've put over 20k miles on it since the lift and it yes it wanders a little but the tire wear is normal. I would highly recommend going elsewhere to get an alignment. Ask the shop that does lifts where they get theirs aligned.

It's called bump steer and is a result of the change of steering geometry when you either lift or drop a vehicle a bit to much.

sounds like a normal ride after lifting these things.. like someone said.. get the alignment done elsewhere and then if it you don't like i.. get Upper Control Arms.. mine drove a lot better after UCA's

agreed... UCA's make a world of difference.

drove mine with & w/o.. no more wondering on the highway after UCA install.

for what its worth, i do know FOX tells ya to run a UCA if you go over 2" of lift on their own website.

i only did about 1.25 and still noticed an improvement in driveability after UCA install..

good luck!.

What size spacer did you install in the rear? Something seems off. Depending on rear lift size you shouldn't still be nose high. Alignment seems off. Ask for before/after printout. Sounds like the dealer didn't know what they were doing but I wouldn't go elsewhere until you get some new tires out of them.

Sounds like you originaly wanted the front shocks adjusted lower to begin with, if it's nose high that's the first thing I would do, then get the alignment.

I go back to this original statement from the OP that the dealership rep told him!

"When I took the shocks into the dealer to have them installed they put them in using the 2.5 at the front and told me they are not adjustable???"

Miscommunication between the OP and the service writer on the adjustment height or Tech unfamiliar with what he was installing, causing all the other issues?

I have the Toytec Boss adjustable coils on my LE, I"m at about 2.5" and it does wander on the highway. With the driving I do I only notice occasionally but it does handle worse than when it was in spec. I finally ordered new UCA's, shipped yesterday, but I have a feeling I'll regret not having gotten them earlier once I throw them on.

That said it still handles way better than my last heap...

The dealership agreed to pay if I take it to an alignment shop. Goes in Thursday. It sounds to me like UCA's are the way to go with this. Time will tell. Not sure what will happen with the tires.

2" spacer on back.
