Just started to get pulsing and stiff steering when making a turn. Is the power steering pump going bad or what? No vibration or pulsing when going straight. Have 163000 on my 2004 sr5.

Have had the same symptoms in the past and it was just an issue of low power steering fluid. Easy to check and fix. Your manual will tell you how. Lucas makes a fluid with a "stop leak" ability if it turns out you have a slow leak.

Also spray lube with WD40 or something your steering colume ujoints in the engine compartment.

when was the last time you had a power steering fluid replaced? could be that the fluid is too dirty and could not flow properly.
