After reading all the nightmare threads about LBJs, I finally decided to replace mine with 199k on the truck. I figured while I was doing those I should replace the OTRs at the same time (whole other story; still can't get the lock nut loose...), and also do the steering rack guide to firm things up a bit.
First question: I ordered the steering rack guide parts from Camelback Toyota, and what I received appears to be the old style guide with the rolling bearing, not the newer style that is solid as described in the replacement thread that I saw. I assumed based on what I've read the old style had stopped being made... Should I return what I received and get the new style?
Second question: What's the best way to remove the old guide once the cap and spring are removed? The replacement thread shows that a parts tray magnet was sufficient to pull it out, but that did not work for me. I'm wondering if I just need to buy a really strong magnet to grab it, or if there's some other trick. Advice?
Thanks in advance!
