Steering vibration - Final repair attempt

IF they are smart they will replace the Dunflops on your 4R with michelins cross terrians (1st choice) or Bridgestones (2nd choice).
Best of luck, but in most cases replacing the Dunlops seemed to cure the problem.
My guess would be to suspect the DUnlops.
Have they fitted other wheels and tires to your 4Runner to see if it resolves the problem?
It's a pity your new car experience gets spoiled by something like this. I wish Toyota would stop sellling the 4Runners with Dunlops, it is much to nice a vehicle to get the crappy AT20s.

My appologies for leaving out the details .....
My 2005 Sport is a 2WD V8 with 1,200miles on it now. The vibration is felt at highway speeds - 50 to 65 range. I havn't had it over 65 yet. The vibration can be felt really only in the steering wheel. I also can see the steering wheel shake.
I'm inclined to think this is not a wheel balance problem. The dealer balanced the wheels once with the cone and again using the special lug-centric adapter. They also swapped tires/rims from another 4runner as a test so I really don't think this is a wheel/tire problem.
I have a feeling that this problem has something to do with the actual steering mechanism. Perhaps there is a design flaw with the rack and pinion, hydrolics, etc.
This board and others on the web have an abundance of postings about vibration-related problems. Also, I contacted the - Attorney General's Office here in Florida and was told that 12 4Runners were bought back by Toyota in 2003 and 2004 alone!
They could not tell me why but I have a feeling they are related to or include this problem.
It is a shame because the 4Runner is an otherwise exceptional vehicle. I hope they resolve the problem because I really don't like the alternertive solution of them buying it back. I guess I would then buy my second choice - the Honda Pilot - nice vehicle but not as sporty.
