Steering wheel audio control on SR5 without audio control

Hi,

I searched for a while on the forums but did not find an answer.


Is is possible to install this part (no 9) on a non-factory equiped SR5? :

Do I need to mod the steering wheel, or I'm just swapping the silver trim with the one with the audio control, and the plug are already there?

Also, I'll be using an aftermarket pioneer radio so no need for compatibility with the OEM radio.

I need to dismantle the wheel to see if the audio control connector is there. Should be done next week.

You might get lucky with this one. Since you are in an SR5 it might have the wiring harness.

If the item / gadget you want to add to your SR5 is from a Trail or limited the wiring harness will most likely not be there.

No, but I'll dismantle my steering wheel this weekend to check if the connectors are there. If not I'll be kinda screwed up and I will probably just install my old pioneer infrared remote.

Here's the pictures....

So while I was installing my new HU, I opened the steering wheel to check if the connector is there.




Well, I'm not totally sure, but it seem's there's no connector on the SR5. If you look at these pictures, you'll see that there's only a 3-pins connector for the cruise control (removed in the pic, brown wire) and another for the airbag and horn.

However, if someone was kind enough to open his non-base-SR5 wheel we could compare to see if the connector is different, or if it's just an adapter.



Also.... the specs says 8.8NM of torque for the side screws to open the steering wheel. Well I broke one of the two Torx 30 bolt with these specs.






So If anybody can sell me a new bolt (can be from an older 4runner), I would gadly pay for it including shipping. I live in a remote area so I've got no access to a scrap yard. Meanwhile I put a temporary bolt but I would prefer an OEM one.

The good news is that it is definitly possible to add control to an SR5!


The bad news is that I've found the clockspring needed with the right connectors.

Here's the part description :

Add this to the control themself (about 200$), and you've got a nearly 700$ bill (without any taxes)....

Just wondering if anyone has actually done this. Just picked up a 2010 SR5 (previously owned a 95 SR5, a 98 SR5 and currently own an 05 Limited). Going to add an AirPlay head unit and would like the steering wheel controls, too.
