Steering wheel- FJ wheel? Adding OEM radio controls?

Does anyone know if a FJ steering wheel and airbag would be a direct fit to my 05 SR5? Also, has anyone added OEM radio control to a car that was not fitted from the factory?

My understanding is that even a truck with no radio controls is wired for it from the factory.

Also, the scion steering wheel appears to be the same as a FJ, I wonder if our 4Runner airbags would fit in the scion or FJ wheel (assuming the airbag cover is not part of the airbag itself)?

Anything related to airbags and may have been previously deployed/fired in an accident and is now on eBay. I wouldn't do it. New parts, maybe. I don't trust myself that much though to do it all right.

I recently watched an episode of "How's it made?" or something like that on satellite - and they showed the production of automotive airbags beginning to end. If Toyota uses anything like the ones they were making that day, on that show, the actual cover is not a part of the airbag assembly. However, the manufacturers do send their new/empty stearing wheels to the airbag maker for the actual bag's installation, the airbag maker then sends the completed assembly back to the car maker for installation into the vehicles.

That piece showed me exactly how complicated these newer "smart/multistage" explosive (yes, they're pyrotechnic, not CO2) airbags are to work with. If you decide to try this swap yourself, proceed with extreme caution. I am not certain that an end consumer posses the skill or tools to "repack" a steering wheel with a replacement airbag - and installing a new wheel with a bag pre-installed even takes certain precautions to prevent accidental firing during the install procedure.

It's just an opinion, but I'd try to find another way to get your remote radio controls. You don't want a wheel in there with a bag that won't fire, and you certainly don't want a wheel in there that may fire randomly because of an install snafu or vehicle incompatibility. Redundant radio controls are nice, but are not worth your life.

Mine did not come with the wheel controls but the wiring for them was there and was plugged in to the back of the radio.

So has anyone fitted OEM radio controls to their non-radio control car?

I know people have swapped in the GX470 (Prado) steering wheel, but I don't know if they swapped the airbag cover and radio control buttons...

I'd like to but I'm too chicken about the air bag.
