Steering Wheel Leather

I am trying to redo the leather that wraps the steering wheel and I want to do it my self. I tried taking the old one off and tracing and so on, but the old one was in such bad shape (torn, stretched, etc.) so I was wondering if anyone knew where to find a stencil or any ideas on a way to do it now. Any information would help. Thanks.

do you mind sharing with me what does the steering wheel look like without the leather on it? what is underneath? my steering wheel leather is worn out in the typical spots. i bought a steering wheel cover just to keep it from wearing even further but i truly dislike the cover and would like to figure something else out.

mee too! i wanna replace the leather b/c its worn in places, but i can see this being an issue because there are parts where the steering wheel comes into the horn ..the "spokes" i guess..which would be hard

however i saw at pepboys they have the steering wheel leather thing where u can buy and sew together..looks legit..but i donno . it was like 17 bucks

I just bought a leather steering wheel cover...

Avalanche one... works great.

Under the leather is an ugly cream colored foam. Mine has multiple colors on it so it appears to have been discolored somehow. If you were thinking about removing the leather and not replacing it, I wouldn't recommend that.

maybe Hydraspo would like to take one for the team seeing he's already peeled the leather off.....and peel off that foam and see if we've got a classic under there!

I might just have to do that once I get the leather off again... which should be soon.

has anyone priced out or actually had the leather redone at a leather-upholstery shop? i am wondering how the price of that would compare to one of those wheelskin covers.

I have nothing but good things to say about wheelskins. Good looking, feeling, and economical.

I second the quality and appearance of Wheel Skins. Definitely a no brainer for me.. only bad part is taking the time and energy to put it on! I have had mine on for over 5 years now, and still looks brand new.
