Steering wheel swap... anyone done it?

Not sure if anyone has a desire for the rubber steering wheel in trade for their leather one? Mine has the bluetooth and audio controls which I would want the same. I did the same thing with my LX470, I traded my wood steering wheel for a leather one. Just didn't like the wood feel.

Well considering the leather one cost more then double the urethane one, and that doesn't even include the rest of the bluetooth and radio control trim pieces.....you might get lucky but I love my leather one as most who have it will.

Your probably going to have to buy one or hope to find one in a bone yard someday if your dead set on a leather oem one.

Go Custom.....Cheaper and easier probably to take it to a custom auto interior shop and let them spin their magic. You would be suprised at what they can do!

On the element forums we used to be able to find cheap honda pilot leather steering wheels that matched perfectly on ebay - its only a matter of time before people start parting out wrecks, maybe one of us will get lucky.

Leather is nice for the first 6-8 years

Leather is nice for the first 6-8 years then it the finish on the leather deteriorates then the leather itself will start to crack at about ten years. The leather wheel on my 99 4r retails for 800+. On the plus side the wheel can be refinished if the cracking is not too far gone.
I don't really feel a difference between the two but astatically the leather is nicer to me. The urethane is more robust in the long term. I expect my 99 will be in the family for another ten years it feels like it’s just now broken in with 120K on it so a urethane wheel would have lasted maybe that long. I hope I have the same luck with the 5th gen.

Thanks! It did take me almost 2 hours to stitch this thing on. I've never stitched before and it was an easy job, just time consuming. I leave that sort of thing to my wife.

Just bumping this up, I'm curious if any other TE/base SR5 owners have done a steering wheel swap. Getting pretty sick of the plastic steering wheel! There are NO OEM leather steering wheels on ebay, I check once a week.

Been wanting to swap too, but the OEM one isn't that great. I do like that Prado wheel but unsure if it will swap out correctly. I went with Wheelskins too, and am just waiting for the weather to warm up a bit before I sit for hours and attempt to sew.
