I posted this over on the 120 forums but I am hoping to get some opinions here as well!
Hi Guys - just like the title states, I'm having a mild wobble/shake in the steering wheel when driving straight between 40 and 50 mph. BREAKING is 100% spot on - no vibrations/shakes there.
When I purchased the Runner back in May, I noticed that when I would brake that the car felt like the rotors were warped. So, I recently had the rotors turned and I no longer have that issue with braking anymore. With that in mind, I've crossed that off the list (for now anyways).
Also, when I purchased the car, it had the same vibration on the highway but not noticeable at low speeds. This was when the vehicle was 100% stock. I just figured the wheels might have been off balance or that it would go away with the rotors being turned. No dice.
Now, I just recently did the Cornfed 3/2 lift, 1.5" spacers, and some 285/70/17 tires. Obviously the wobble is worse around 40-50mph due to the extra weight and rotation. The spacers I installed about a week ago at factory height with the factory tires. I noticed that they DID NOT change the previous factory wobble any worse or any better. So, I've ruled those out (for now).
When I got the tires mounted and balanced, they all balanced perfectly, so no signs of a bent rim. I just checked all the lugs and they are torqued properly and none are missing. All the weights are still on the wheels. So, I'm ruling these out (for now).
I also did a 4 wheel alignment two days ago. I did not get the printout (I know, I know) but was assured everything was aligned properly. But, if it wasn't, I'm not sure it could cause a wobble like that.
So, as I stated, this wobble has been with me from the very beginning so I am hoping you guys might be able to shed some light on this for me. It's a real pain with the lift and tires at low speeds - highway isn't so bad. Are there any other culprits that I might check out?
