Has anyone found an install kit that fits the limited. Want to install an Alpine XM ready radio but have had no luck with an install kit and would like to hear a success before I buy one and get stuck with it.
I recently installed the Scosche kit (#TA2044) from sounddomain.com (http://www.sounddomain.com/shop/item.pl?sku=SCOTA2044B&vq_id=none ) in my 03 Limited. I'm pretty sure it's very similar to the American International kit and the Metra kit, so either of those would work too.
The only downside is that these kits aren't made for Limited or Sports with the factory JBL 10 speaker system, so there is a about a half inch gap along the sides and bottom of the plastic trim of the kit and the dash opening. It really doesn't look too bad, but you can tell it wasn't specifically made for the Limited. Other than that, the bolt holes and everything line up perfectly to the factory holes so it's a nice fit.
Another problem is that if you have the factory JBL system and you want to use an aftermarket headunit, you'll have to install a 4 channel amp (or use the headunit's built-in amp) and re-wire all the door speakers to run off that amp. As far as I know, you can't tap into the factory speaker wires that come out of the JBL headunit because they go back to the factory amp in the rear cargo area, and not directly to the speakers themselves. It took me 3 or 4 weekends to re-wire and do all that work. I also installed component speakers up front and a sub in the back (along with 2 amps). It's a lot of work if you do it yourself, but it does sound a lot nicer than the factory system. The local car stereo shop wanted about $500 to install all that stuff so that's why I chose to do it myself.
