Alright, so I just bought a 12" Kicker Comp series sub w/ box from my cousin. I am going to buy an amp as soon as possible. I was wondering if I can hook up my sub to the stock head unit. Can I do it? Has anyone else done it? Feedback is much appreciated. Thanks.

Yes, I have an amp intalled to boost the stock system and I will eventually run a sub. There is a converter unit that will hook up to the stock deck.

How much does the converter unit cost?

I'm not 100% sure. It was installed for me and the reciept is not itemized very well. There is something called a Hi Low which was $60. This might be the adaptor I was talking about but I thought it was cheaper. The only other part I can make out is a amp kit and I believe that would be the cable and fuse that gets run to the battery $100.

a line level (high output converter) is used to changed speaker wire signals into RCA signals to plug into an amp. Very helpful if you are running a stock head unit. it is quite a bit more money but, if you want the best sound from you head unit and you want to run external amps. look into JL Audios clean sweep. or there are also other companies that all mke proccessors. basically it is something that plugs into the factory radio and lets you use it as if it were an aftermarket radio.
