Stereo Upgrade: OEM Audio Plus

Just thought I would post an email response from OEM Plus. They offer plug and play stereo swaps. A bit more expensive but fairly simple for install. If there has been a thread about this already please delete.

1-inch Soft Dome Tweeters which replaces the factory paper cone tweeters in the dash locations.
Multi-channel Power Amplifier with built-in 32-Bit DSP andlVehicle-Specific Acoustic Tuning perfected for the 4Runner.
Quick-Sync Wiring Harness for a seamless plug & play connection.
8-inch Carbon Fiber cone Woofer in a sealed 14-liters subwoofer specifically for the 4Runner.
The tailored 4Runnner subwoofer fits flush to the driver side rear panel and is easily removable to access the tire jack. The enclosure is finished in matching Trim Black for a factory look. Optional show quality body color matching finished are also available for a personal touch (as you know).

I don't currently have a 4Runner, just sold my Tundra and I have a 1998 Tacoma. Looking to add a 2018 TRD Pro to the roster depending on interior updates or do a small build on a low mileage 2014-2016.

I know Focal offers some speaker specific replacement for the 4Runner but it doesn't look anywhere near the complete kit that this company offers.

There ya go. Looks very nice, do they offer 10" sub? What is the brand name of the sub?

The only way to acoustically tune is by using a signal processor and a microphone. The microphone is placed in the Driver seat at ear level, then audio comes out of each individual speaker separately, which gets measured by the microphone. Once that is done, the system is perfected for your vehicle. Without the processor and microphone, nobody can says its perfected for a 4runner. Just my 2cents.

I don't know a lot about stereos. I've had 2-3 custom set ups in my last couple Toyotas. Noticed this company on the Tacoma forum and inquired. From the Tacoma Forum, some have said overpriced but most are beyond happy to pay a little more for a quick easy plug and play install.
 
I have installed a couple of these systems from them. Mostly the scion and FJ systems. pretty nice as it is almost all plug and play for the amp and wiring. Fit and finish has been pretty nice. For the price I have seen that they sell them for you can build a much nicer system if you wanted to with a good shop or even diy
 
I can attest to OEM Audio Plus' quality. Currently have their 2015+ WRX system and it is completely plug and play. The sound is a huge and noticeable improvement over stock. Even with the 8inch sub being in the trunk, there was still plenty of thump. With the 4Runner sub being in the cabin, I'm sure the bass will be a lot more noticeable. As far as the tuning goes, they put a lot of research into their systems to make sure the sound quality is noticed everywhere in the car. The amps and signal processor make the music a lot crisper and brings out the full potential of the stock speakers. Sure the price is up there but for anyone looking for a nicely built complete system you can't go wrong with this one. The enclosures are solidly built and the harness looks factory if not better.

They do use a microphone at the headrest to tune the dsp for each particular vehicle model. It is strange to me that they aren't upgrading the door speakers in this package. The FJ and Tacoma packages i have heard also have new midbass drivers.

As kids we used to want the most wattage and the biggest subs our trunks can fill and treble that could make your ears bleed. But I bought a camry with a JBL sound system and realized that a properly tuned system was much more rewarding. It was enough bass front and back and the right amount of mids and highs. It was plenty loud and very clean. Guess what? I still had a trunk!
 
I've gone down this road with sub's, but over time i hate all the stuff that gets rattled loose. I would rather spend money on better door panel speakers with bass in them.. just my opinion.
 
I've been researching sound upgrades lately, and have (mostly) decided on the Focals upgrade (all speakers)... and that's about $1000. So technically, this pricing (with discount) is not all that bad for plug and play... you're only spending another $500ish for a sub and pre-calibrated amp (along with all new speakers) if you were already considering Focals. Honestly tho, I really don't want anymore "thump", nor much loudness (tho a little wouldn't hurt). I just want some more clarity and definition with stock head unit. We'll see; I'm not pursuing right away anyhow.
