Stereo Upgrade Question

I bought a 2005 Sport edition and it has a real nice Kenwood head unit that someone replaced the OEM JBL head unit with. The rest of the JBL System is still being used including the sub.

It does not sound bad at all and I can live with it as is but

I have a 4 channel amp and 2 sets of Polk Audio speakers sitting in my garage that I took out of the 2003 4Runner. (it is a different amp).

I would like to hook up the amp to the door speakers and continue to use the sub as is (connected to the factory amp)

Has anyone done this successfully? Can I run 2 different amp systems, 1 aftermarket and 1 OEM?

For that, i suggest you to run new rca wire from the deck to 4channel amp, then new speaker wires from the amp to the doors. This way you can still use the stock sub with stock amp.

That is what I would do. What I do not know is-> will the aftermarket amp and the OEM amp both work.

I thought the JBL system was different somehow. It requires a signal to turn on the amp from the head unit. If I put in a aftermarket amp, even though it is only powering the door speakers, will the OEM amp still get the signal needed to power the sub?

check the harness behind the deck, usually the aftermarket harness uses the speaker wire output and not rca, if it is using the rca, just get some y splitter, you can use both amp at the same time. the best way to find out how the sub gets sound, use the fader control, i dont know if it uses the front or rear output for it, i never had a jbl system since i always upgrade.
