Stero/Nav upgrade options for 4th Gen non-JBL

Hi - I've just bought a used (07) SR5 that has the factory 1 CD non-JBL unit.
I'd like to put an in dash unit that has AM/FM/CD, NAV, BlueTooth, and IPOD control.
Reading through posts, seems like there are options from SCION units, Eclipse, pioneer, kenwood.
I'd like to help narrowing down what to look at. I'd like something I can install myself, will fit/look good, and inexpensive (don't want to spend more that $1K). I'm not looking for Hi watt output - so don't want to have to add amps etc.

You could check out crutchfield.com. You just import your vehicle and they will show you what fits.

I'd definitely take a look at the Scion navigation system. You can get one for pretty cheap off eBay. Plus, it's mostly plug-and-play, just two wires for speed/reverse need to be tapped. It doesn't have support for bluetooth however.

This unit seems to support everything - bluetooth and could even add a backup camera.
I looks like I'd need to add extra to work with steering controls.

Anyone know if I can add the bluetooth controls to a steering wheel that doesn't have it?

Also is suggests it's not a perfect fit with the dash - is there another model that I should look at? Not sure what model number this is.

Hey. This unit's installation won't be much different from most other aftermarket units, other than wiring. You'll probably need the Metra 95-8202 install pieces. This does look like it's plug & play (non-jbl). For that price however, I believe you can do better.

I believe this unit is made by Valor, which was recently reported on in an issue of Car Audio & Electronics. They said it was basically mediocre at best. But, really, if you like it best, get it. It really shouldn't matter what others' opinions are. Everybody's got their preferences, likes, & dis-likes.

About the bluetooth steering wheel controls. If you already have steering wheel controls, you can add the other side switches. This doesn't mean that the switches will operate bluetooth on the new unit though. For the steering wheel controls to work with the aftermarket radio, you will need an adapter such as the PAC SWI-JACK, or SWI-X. You then program the buttons for what you want them to operate. Some radios limit what functions can be controlled. I was somewhat disappointed when I discovered I couldn't program my choice of controls with my Kenwood. However, I'm particular with some things. It may not bother you.

It sounds like we are in about identical positions ... I bought my '07 three weeks ago.

The muddy bass and poor treble that comes out of the system is nasty - I'm not sure what will help most, a new head unit or new speakers. I don't really want to add an amp and I don't want to lose the steering wheel remote controls.

Please let me (and everyone else) know what you end up doing!

The eclipse AVN6620 is plug and play in T4R you only have to tap sppedsense and e-brake. I have one with the bt kit that my wife finds to distracting to use. I was hoping to get $875.00 shipped If you are interested I can send pics
