stiff clutch on 96 4runner

I just picked up a 96 4runner with 110k miles and they clutch seems a lot stiffer than the one I have in my 2000 tacoma. My mechanic said that it is getting time for it to be replaced. Thought I'd do a fact check with you folks.

I actually always found the 4Runner clutch to be a bit stiffer. Other than the stiffness, how does the car feel when driving? Is the engagement point really really high, like almost releasing the clutch all the way before it engages? Do you feel any slippage while in gear? Like if you have it fully engaged and you mash the gas pedal in 4th gear, do you see your revs go up a little bit before you feel the car accelerate? Lastly, in 4th gear while cruising, step on the clutch quickly and let go and feel if there's any slip when it re-engages (don't let go of the gas pedal but don't be flooring it either). Those are a few things to guage whether you need a new one or not.
