Still looking at a 05 4R, question

I'm currently waiting for the 05 V8s to hit the lots, and I have a question.

Is it possible to get a Sport without the sunroof? The build site doesn't provide that option. (Kansas City Region) The reason I ask is that I would like the third seat option, which isn't available with a sunroof, and I don't really want the sunroof anyway.

Also, since the third-seat isn't available for the sport, is it possible to buy that option and install it myself? I'm sure it would be ridiculously expensive though.

The reason you can't get the 3rd Row on a sport is because of the XREAS. Correct me if i'm wrong someone...

If you special order your T4R, you can get just about any combination.

Really has nothing to do with XREAS. Sport editions were originally designed to have a sunroof standard, but due to some initial problems with the sunroofs and demand for the Sport Editions, they became an option. You can get the Limited with XREAS and 3rd row (speaking from experience), just can't get that sunroof and a 3rd row without getting the Lexus version of the 4Runner.

this was debated a while back... Unless you have more money to burn (maybe 1-2k) and want to downgrade your stereo, the 3rd row is not an installable option. You have to remove the pillar speakers, install the seatbelt anchors, removed all plastic in the back and install the supports with the new plastic panels, then install the third row...

Search for previous posts about this.... but for most (including me) the only thing I sacrificed (except the goat and the chicken) was the hood scoop and the larger brakes up front.

if you have to have the 3rd row, and want XREAS, you have one option - a limited.

The salesguy at the dealership said they can't do the third-seat/sunroof together because the roof line would be too low for minimum safety standards. How does the Lexus version do it? Do they "bubble" the roof in the rear like the ugly stretched Chevy Trailblazer?

I'm most likely going to go with the SR5 V8, no sunroof, third-seat route, rather than the limited. I can "afford" the limited, but I don't want to. I don't care about the leather/luxury items, so the limited doesn't justify the over 6,000.00 price difference to me. I was looking at the new 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee with a Hemi, but the size, and the requirement that you have to get the Limited to be able to get a Hemi, turned me off.

I think the SR5 is a great deal with the all the standard features, I just was thinking Sport for the XREAS and hood scoop. Neither one are worth that much to me, so I'll stick with the SR5.

Lexus has a different roof line

See thread under comparisons for LX470 with 3rd row and sunroof?? I started this a while ago, and was informed that the body is taller when compared side by side. This should also make the unit a little more prone to tipping when turning at speed....but their suspension system handles this as well... Oh well, pay 15k more for the loaded Lexus and get all the toys...
