stock '07 4runner radio upgrade to jbl

going off my previous thread regarding satellite radio, I'm trying to upgrade my stock radio: http://www.toyota-4runner.org/audio...yota-satellite-radio-stock-4runner-radio.html

i know that many audiofiles will argue against the stock toyota radio and opt for an aftermarket upgrade...but i want to keep the parts toyota and the look congruent. call me crazy i know...

so i have the first model in my '07...no sat hookup...just am, fm1,fm2 and disc/aux buttons. i'm assuming i have the standard 6speaker system, which is fine. i found a jbl, 6disc mp3 player (aka type 3 in the users manual), which has satellite hookup: TOYOTA CD RADIO JBL Synthesis 4runner 06 07 08 09 - eBay (item 250821758279 end time Jun-16-11 15:31:54 PDT)

can i swap this out cleanly? will i run into problems with sizing or hookups since the jbl is for 10speaker systems? and is this an expensive fee if the dealer does it for me? they're going to replace a few lightbulbs in the area surrounding the climate controls...i figured since the front plate was already dismantled, they could swap it out?

thoughts?

You will need a JBL amp to go with this radio and a wiring harness to connect them. I do not think your radio has a external amp. I know others here have done this, but mostly with the JBL nav radio. It is possible, it will just take a little work. I am in the process of trying to do this myself. I will let you know how it turns out.

With a lot of searching and a little luck, I was able to swap my standard radio for the JBL unit. You will need the JBL radio, a climate control unit from a JBL 4Runner (or the guts to hack yours up), the center instrument cluster panel and a JBL amp and wiring harness for it. I was lucky and found the first three on ebay cheap. The the wiring harness was custom made by a guy I found on the internet searching on how to do this swap, he supplied the amp as well. I know it would have been easier to just put a aftermarket radio in, but I really wanted the OEM look. I love the results and it looks good, after all it is Toyota!

Wow, I knew this was possible just didn't think someone had actually done it. Kudos to you - the wiring harness is the biggest issue IMO - good job on being patient and getting it done.
