STOCK 3rd gens without running boards. Care to share pics?

Just do it. As long as your bolts aren't rusted beyond repair, it is an easy and free and completely reversible mod.
I personally went both ways and prefer the boards on. Yes it gives you a free "lift", but it also exposes some pretty ugly pinch welds and rotten rusty undercarriage parts. Keep in mind, I rarely wheel the truck. In fact the only off-road use has been a few beach blasts. Never crawled across anything. Massachusetts is NOT the state to live in if you like to wheel. :sobbing:
Ironically, my board removal mod was initiated by some urban wheeling. I did my best JohnsD90 impression and crawled up on a snow bank in a mall parking lot. Unfortunately, it had frozen rock-hard. I ended up mangling one of my boards. Off they came.
Here's how she looked without them.
I rocked the runner for a few years without boards and then got tired of hearing people complain about having to climb up into my truck (I sell real estate). So I bent the brackets back into shape and reinstalled the boards.
Here's a similar angle with them on:

yeah, ryani, when you gonna color key the bumpers?? the chrome stands out alot....
the wheels look so good, edit: sorry, trying to sound positive, not like a punk... :0) I think it will look way better color keyed.. urs is one of the few I would say that about with the color...
I definitely love mine without the running boards. I thought I would always prefer the running board look, I was wrong
It's in the process as we speak. My friend and I are making a front and rear set of tube bumpers and then hes going to smooth texture Rhino line the bumpers. They will match the lower color when finished. Got my lift on last week and finished the rear drawer and full stereo system last weekend.

man to be honest, my thoughts have change drastically, couple months ago, I hated the look of 3rd gens without the running boards, it made them look cheap and so basic. i liked how mine had the running boards and i thought to myself "man im never gunna take my running boards off and look like these other 4runners" then within the past week or so, my thoughts have changed. i notice it does seem like i get a "lift" from removing the running boards. o well, when the weather gets warm and im not caught up in school ill take them off for a couple weeks and see how i like them

Yes, my wife complains a bit about the step up but living in CO if you want to take the vehicle off road they really need to come off.
